Wheezing Cough Formula is a prescription for the treatment of chronic cough and asthma symptoms that are characterized by thick yellow Phlegm. Chinese medicine believes that the Lung governs Qi and respiration. Cough and asthma are the results of the failure of disseminating and descending of Lung Qi. The cause of the problems may be the invasion of the Lung system by external pathogens or the dysfunction of the internal organs and the Lung affected by internal pathogens. The problem is in the Lungs but may be related to the Liver and Spleen or to the Kidney if it is in a prolonged case. Phlegm is the main pathological product that obstructs Lung Qi. Phlegm is divided into Heat Phlegm and Cold Phlegm.

This formula disseminates Lung Qi and relieves cough, clears Heat Phlegm and replenishes Lung and Spleen as the main formula principles. It is suitable for chronic cough, bronchitis and asthma, accompanied by the symptoms of thick yellow phlegm, chest tightness and shortness of breath.

Bai Guo (Ginkgo biloba seed), Bai Qian (Cynanchum glaucescens rhizome), Ban Xia (Pinellia ternata tuber), Chen Pi (Citrus reticulata peel), Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillaria cirrhosa bulb), Fu Ling (Poria cocos), Huang Qin (Scutellaria baicalensis root), Jie Geng (Platycodon grandiflorum root), Kuan Dong Hua (Tussilago farfara flower), Ren Shen (Panax ginseng root), Xing Ren (Prunus armeniaca seed), Yu Xing Cao (Houttuynia cordata herb), Zi Wan (Aster tataricus root)
